My name is David Schooley and I’m running in the RECO Board of Directors election in Zone 2. I am a full-time Broker with RE/MAX Twin City and have been practicing in Waterloo Region for 16 years. As a REALTOR®, I am fiercely protective of our professional standards.

I believe:

• Working in this industry is a privilege, not a right

• Changes to the Trust in Real Estate Act (TRESA) are an important first step in restoring our trust in RECO and the public’s trust in us as registrants

• With more registrants chasing fewer transactions, our industry is evolving and not always in a good way

• Updated education from RECO needs to be expedited as “click until you get it” doesn’t meet the standards we require

• We should take immediate action on violations that have, or will, impact consumers

• We need to deal with all complaints in a timely manner, with the most severe offences taking priority

• We need a “whistleblower” policy that allows REALTORS® to address professional concerns without jeopardizing trading relationships

• Registrants who are unwilling to comply with the Code of Ethics cannot be left in a position of public trust

• Statistically, our industry has an exemplary ethical record, but it’s easily tarnished when violations make front page news

I am asking for your support in the upcoming RECO Board of Directors election for Zone 2 and hope that you will take the opportunity to vote March 9-23. Here’s the link:
